It's time for the 8 O'Clock news, Live from Monster Island! We're here at the Tournament studio to oversee the arrival of the competitors, and Plenair, Same and my twin brother, Usagi, are all on the boat with the arriving competitors, which I am told was donated by Senator Sparklesucker. He apparently told us to 'Get rid of it with style' and we plan to do just that. But first, Same, how are the contestants holding up?



We've got a lot of angry ladies here Usagi, since it turns out that the 'speed advantage' that was offered to all the contestants has resulted in about half of them being locked into roller skates, and we haven't even hit the beach yet! Still, there's plenty of refreshment and they seem to be enoying a leasurely cruise through the waters surrounding Monster island.



I wouldn't be so hasty to declare us sailing fancy-free and without a care Usagi. We've got to pass through the waters around Monster Island, which are permanently under a Geo Effect to stop unwanted intruders. And there are sea serpents in the water here! Now, I'm not 100% sure, but my dad always told me that they eat sharks!



The rest of us breathe a deep sigh of relief-



Oh, they eat everything else too.

[There's a scream of protest, a splash, and an explosion of lightning under the water that probably either cooks the sea serpents, or pisses them off. And anyone else who happens to be swimming nearby]

[There is a giant of a woman-a bit over six feet or 1.8 M, paddling through the water-but her full metal armor attracts that electricity like crazy by fantasy rules, doesn't it?]

[her head bobs to the surface hissing and cussing up a storm. Still pulsing furious lightning making the water light up and occasionally her skin flashes translucent so you can see her skeleton.]

[Nelia's words are slurred somewhat by the lightning , but she still has powerful if unskilled strength to pull her through the water-perhaps even demonic strength?

Nah, that's crazy talk. No demon would ever have so much stick up her ass.]

[And just for that doubles her output of lightning]

[Well, she tried saying 'that hurts' succinctly-so her gauntlet connects with Ruffnut's nose quite powerfully.]

[well that's one way of dealing with it. That stuns Ruffnut shutting off the lightning like a switch has been flipped. Her eyes cross and she sinks under the water nose bleeding]

[Nelia takes a deep breathe before diving down like a rock to grab Ruffnut and drag her back up.

And then a Sea Serpent takes an interest in all the electricity and blood.]

Though they do have shark teeth and electro-sensory organs, and a keen sense of smell and...

[The knight suddenly twists in the water and throws a punch at the nose of an oncoming Serpent-but will Ruffnut help as she has been ordered to?]

[Civil? Never. Co-operative? Yes. She throws a punch with so much rage behind it that sparks ignite on contact and her eyes seem to burn hot white]

[Nelia begins to swim to shore, still towing Ruffnut. Hey, what's going on here? Isn't she wearing 70 pounds of cloth and metal in her armor alone, let alone that scabbard and all the rest of the stuff banging and clattering along behind her?]

[Ruffnut allows herself to be dragged along, and even vaguely notices that this shouldn't be possible]

Yeah well, I'd like to see how in control you would be if you'd just lost the most important person in your life.

And I'm not strong enough to go after her. I can't leave under my own power.

Of course she is! But I can't just sit on my thumbs and let her do all the work. I gotta get to her somehow. I...need her.

...do not flail about casting blows all about you when you are beset by tragedy. Calm your heart-and then strike truly, with a single blow that can topple trees.

Or in other words, don't take out your frustrations on others who might be willing to help you if you ask kindly.

Finding someone who can scry across dimensions would be a first step. I wouldn't trust any of these demon sages and sorceress though.
