Scrap(!?) Iron Chef

[And now, for the next event in the competition]

[Kaguya seems to be heading this one-]

Your attention, everybody! It is time for the next round, the cooking competition!

First of all, everybody will be paired up.

Team One: Doomkitty and Asagi.

Team Three: Mindy and Ruffnut.

Team Two: Nelia and Setsuna.

Team Four: Tewi and Mao.

As well, four fishing tanks have been provided. The fish must be used somehow in your appetizer as well as the main course! If you can successfully implement fish in your dessert, bonus points will be awarded. Fishing poles have been provided, but more entertaining methods of catching the fish is encouraged! You will lose points if you resort to breaking the fishing tanks, however.

A small, full stocked pantry is also provided for each team. Beware of monsters and traps, however!

[Note that there's more sea-life than just 'fish' if you want to catch something else in the tanks.]

You will have one hour (of ingame time) to complete your dishes.

Ummm, well I suppose I know a few basic themes myself...and I could perhaps do a desert? Merede, what kind of things are expected? Iced cream and fruit juices was all the rage at court last season.

We do have fish-based ice cream in the country I come from - that is probably like your iced cream - but I don't think we should try it, the one we want to impress is a queen, and experimenting with that would doom our task with certainity!

Iced cream with fruits - or maybe with fruit juice - might really be a better idea...

I'm not an ass at all! I am the perfect main character for a fantasy RPG or JRPG. Hell, any sort of RPG or JRPG. You can't be an ass if you are a main character for those games.

We now go to our fish on the floor, Same. Same, describe the kitchens to our folks at home.



Each team has been provided with a pile of junk thrown out by the hotels and casinos on the island Usagi! Each one contains the same basic items-a stove, an over, a grill or broiler, an ice cream machine and a deep fryer, but each team also has a piece of special equipment all their own.

Team one has an Anti-griddle, a large flat cryogenic piece of metal used to cool things rapidly and freeze anything it touches. it's super cold instead of super hot, but it still deals enough damage to make one of the team members re-spawn if she touches it directly!

Team two receives the Fractional Vacuum Distiller, a piece of scientific equipment capable of separating any flavor into it's component parts! Who would have thought such a thing had a use in the kitchen? The staff assure me that it can separate the good from the bad of anything, so we'll see how that's used.

Team Three has a set of sushi-making equipment, including a prinny who was a sushi master in his human life-but he'll only make rice, and won't touch the finished pieces.

Team four gets the oldest piece of special equipment, which I have been told is a 'Tandor Oven', but looks to me like a big clay pot turned upside down and with a lot of coals in the bottom. They tell me it's good for making bread, but I have no idea how you're supposed to do that! Those kabob skewers beside it make more sense...

Ruffnut looked like she'd been through hell more then a few times, but the look on her face was one so bright and beaming like the sun.

She also couldn't seem to keep her hands off Mindy.

"Stupid bitch. Leaving me all alone like that. You know how much I missed you?"

"Keep talking lke that and I'm going to make sure your mouth is put to better use," Mindy said, grinning in spite of what she was saying. "Besides, you couldn't imagine the kind of bullshit I had to go through. I hope you at least tried to burn the place down when you found out I was gone."

She gazed into the fish tank, her mind already spinning with possibilities.

Ruffnut put her hand in the tank casually and let the electricity spread through the water killing fish left and right, thankfully insulated by the glass.

"I tried to wreck the place, tried to escape into the universe, and tried to kill a ton of people."

"The best one, and the only one," Mindy said, tapping the girl's knee with her foot. "I knew you'd miss me. But trust me, it wasn't easy for me either. But I guess seeing is believing. Look."

She closed her eyes. She concentrated on the aquarium, and slowly, surely, the fishes started to rise out of the water, flipping about in the air. Mindy grimaced, since moving objects were a little harder than stationary ones, but seemed to be bearing it in stride.

"How well can you use the lightning?"

Mao stared blankly at that... pot.

"Can we use our evil heating powers on a bowl of ramen and call it a day?" Mao asked. "I only know like two things that can be cooked with a shine beam, and I see neither here."

[Tewi and her rabbits gracefully walk to the judging table. Her rabbits place down the food, which have been skillfully arranged and garnished. It may not be what Rozalin would see from a royal chief, but it is pretty well done.]

May I present Team Tewi's and Mao's meal! For starters, we have Kalakukko, a type of fish bread baked on the inside of a giant cooking pot, with some Reverse Mermaid Roe made as a spread for your bread.

For you main meal, we have various fish Kabobs, made from Swordfish, Salmon, Paranha, and eel, served with a light salad with carrot's.

For your dessert, sweet Tayoaki balls, made from fresh giant squid pounded into perfection, sprinkled with cinnamon, and your choice of a vanilla cream dip on the side, or a carrot cake glaze dip.

[The Tayoki balls... well, nothing looked wrong with them... it was just the amount. There was 3 massive plates with a large pyramid of balls.]

This is a rather...broad selection. Fish bread you say? And...reverse mermaid roe? Unsusual, to say the least. I don't like fish kabobs however, the fish tends to be dried out and the various kinds need to be cooked separately. The salad on the other hand is good.

You've given us far too many tayoaki however. One of these would have been more than enough for three people, and I may have to deduct points for that.

Are you getting full yet? Having to eat everyone elses food first? Or is that not how it works?

A mere tasting is all that is required. Sushi and rice balls? One might think that the rice was the theme, not the fish.

The stew is interesting, somewhat gelatinous with a good mouthfeel. But it needs to pop a bit more.

[Nelia botched the serving a bit-she chose all identical plates, too large for the otoro, too small for the roast, and her ice cream has half-melted from being served to early.]

The sauce is flavorful, but that is the only compliment I can give you.
